In its monthly report for June, the International Coffee Organization (ICO) says that before the current price levels, there is less incentive for farmers to invest in crops as well as in the use of inputs such as fertilizer and labour. This could have a negative impact on production volumes and quality over the next few years. The result will be increased volatility and a value of less sustainable production chain.


The ICO (International Coffee Organization) released this Monday (01) that global shipments of coffee totalled 9.75 million bags of 60 kilos in the month of May. The volume is smaller than the registered in the same period last year, when were exported 10.32 million bags of the bean.
In contrast, world exports of coffee, in the first eight months of the season 2012, from October to May of 2013, presented an increase of 5.2%, totalling 75.69 million bags. In equal period 2012, were shipped 71.96 million bags.


ICO has slightly increased its estimate for world coffee production in 2012/13 to 144.7 million bags of 60 kg, the organization pointed in the monthly report. The number surpasses the previous estimate of 144.6 million bags of coffee and represents a 6.9% increase in crop year.
ICO reiterated its expectation that the coffee rust in Central America will reduce production in the region around 2.3 million bags.
The world consumption for calendar year 2012 was estimated at 142 million bags, up 2.2% in the year.

The International Coffee Organization (ICO) has pointed out that the world coffee production in 2012/13 (October / September) should stay at 144.646 million bags of 60 pounds, thus an increase of 6.4% compared with the 2011/12, which is placed on production 135,933,000 bags. The numbers run from March report of the ICO.


Relative to last March, the monthly report of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) indicates stabilizing prices of coffee, with the monthly average of the ICO composite remain essentially unchanged from the previous month.
The outbreak of coffee rust in Central America has produced devastating effects at the social and economic losses in the region, estimated by PROMECAFE of 2.3 million bags, worth about 550 million dollars, and about 441,000 posts direct labour.
However, global production for the coffee year 2012/13 remains at 144.6 million bags.


The International Coffee Organization (ICO) on Friday estimated loss of 2.5 million bags of coffee of world production in 2012/13 season due to rust, a fungal disease that attacks the leaves of coffee trees. The losses could rise to about 4 million bags in crop year 2013/14, the organization added.

World coffee exports totalled 9.67 million bags in January 2013, compared with 8.09 million in January 2012. Exports in the first four months of coffee year 2012/13 (October/12 to January/13) increased 15.8% to 37.87 million bags compared to 32.69 million bags of coffee last year. In the twelve months ended January 2013, exports of Arabica totalled 67.08 million bags compared to 66.11 million bags last year, while exports totalled 47.59 million bags of Robusta, against 37.68 million bags.

The International Coffee Organization (ICO) released the figures for imports by consumer countries in October 2012. According to the organization, has acquired Germany, in the tenth month of the year, 2,006,206 bags of coffee, which implied high of 25.16% in relation to the volume purchased in September (1,602,861 bags). With the acquisition of 1,902,781 bags in October, the United States show a decline of 11.43% compared to the 2,148,263 bags of the previous month. Italy has already increased its purchases of the product (+11.24%) in October to acquire 852,640 bags.
