The coffee activity in Bengo province gains new momentum this year, with the commissioning of three new coffee shelling machines, at January 30, an initiative of the provincial government. These machines, with the ability to peel three tons/day each, were distributed to municipalities Dembos, Nambuangongo and Bula Atumba and will contribute to the revival of coffee activity in Bengo province, in times past, it has been a reference in coffee production in the country.
According to the National Coffee Institute (INCA), the province of Bengo has 35 farms to work in a partial way, being in recovery phase. 273 farms and more than 1,094 family farms were, for various reasons, long ago abandoned by the owners.
The municipalities of Bula Atumba, Pango Aluquem, Dembos, Nambuangongo and Dande are major producers of coffee in Bengo province. The coffee harvest in Bengo province in 2012 was 59 tons, numbers below the initial forecast of 65 tonnes, mainly due to the drought that hit the country.
