The coffee harvest this year is expected to reach 49.15 million bags of 60 kilos in Brazil. The projection was released on Friday (20/12) by the National Supply Company (Conab). The fourth harvest estimate of the product indicated a reduction of 3.3 % compared to the previous cycle.
According to Conab, the biennial interfered in the fall of volume produced, since the cycle is low. "This occurred in most areas of Arabica coffee. Another factor that interfered in the fall was the continuation of the scheme rather irregular of rains and maintenance of high temperatures in most producing states, and frosts in Paraná, "says the company in a statement.
The greatest reduction was observed in Robusta coffee, which decreased by 12.95%, followed by Arabica, with 0.15%. Estimated at 38.29 million bags, the Arabica corresponds to 77.9% of the volume produced in the country. The largest producer is Minas Gerais (27.38 million bags).
The production of Robusta accounted for 10.86 million bags, representing 22.1% of the national total. The largest producer is Espírito Santo (8.2 million bags).
Regarding the planted area, coffee is on 2.311 million hectares, 0.76% lower than the previous crop. Of this total, 295,173 (12.8%) are in training and 2.016 million (87.2%) in production.
"The study also confirms the downward trend of the difference between high and low biannually past seasons, due to the increased use of mechanization, combined with technological innovations, market requirements, product quality and good management of the activity" evaluates Conab.
