According to a new survey conducted by Mintel, the demand for iced coffee has grown. The habit of drinking hot coffee is changing, as consumers look for iced coffee as an alternative tasty and fresh for the whole year. Above any other country, the U.S. is joining forces in this new habit, especially in foodservice.
Survey data from Mintel show that the share of iced coffee in all menus in Americans restaurants and coffee shops increased from 19 to 22% between 2009 and 2012. On the other hand, considering only the first quarter of 2013, it appears that this share rose from 22 to 24%, confirming that the interest for iced coffee is not only growing, but also to go beyond its traditional association and appeal to summer.
More than a fleeting fashion, iced coffee is to consolidate, reflecting changing tastes of the new generation.
Mintel revealed that consumers aged between 18 and 24 years, in contrast to older consumers, ingest much more this increasing consumer choice. While, overall, one in five (20%) Americans drink this drink and that number rises to 38% when considering consumers aged between 18 and 24 years. Furthermore, the survey results show that 77% of consumers recognize that iced coffee helps them feel more productive at work.
