Doubtful about drinking tea or coffee, it is best to consume them. A study published in the American Heart Association's journal found that people who drink a cup of coffee a day are 20% less likely to have a stroke compared with those who avoid the beverage. Besides, who include at least four cups of green tea daily menu also reduces the risk of stroke.
Researchers analysed the drinking habits of nearly 84,000 Japanese adults for a period of 13 years. "This is the first study that examines large-scale combined effects of green tea and coffee on the risk of stroke," said Yoshiro Kokubo, leader of the study, the National Center for Cerebral and Cardiovascular Health in Japan
The report concluded that the combination of green tea and coffee will reduce the risk of stroke. Even fewer, just consume the tea also helps protect against the disease. People who drank two to four cups per day were 14% less likely to have a stroke.
Study participants were between 45 and 74 years and were free of cancer and cardiovascular problems. All results took into account age, gender, lifestyle, smoking, alcohol consumption, weight and exercise.
Although it is still unclear how green tea causes these results, scientists believe that a compound known as catechins may provide protection to the blood vessels. As for the coffee, various components of the beverage are beneficial to health, such as chlorogenic acid and caffeine. This says the researchers, may reduce the risk of stroke and type 2 Diabetes.
