The Proexport Colombia governmental organization focused on promoting tourism, exports and investments in Colombia in several countries, highlights the claim of Fernando Pimentel, Minister of Foreign Trade of Brazil. That said the country intends to increase its exports of roasted coffee blends, while reducing sales and increasing green beans coffee purchases from countries like Colombia to offer their own blends. " We need to improve our mix and for that we must bring at least 30% of coffee from elsewhere to mix with ours", said Fernando Pimentel at a press conference in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, home of the annual meeting of the International Coffee Organization (ICO).
Fernando Pimentel added that the idea of importing the product would cause a change in legislation to allow the entry of green beans from abroad.
The fall in international coffee prices, which this year accumulates a loss of 18% in the New York market, forced Brazil to design a series of measures to help farmers, among which stands out a battery of 3 billion reais to finance productive projects.
