For some people, drinking coffee is something necessary to start the day. However, researchers found that coffee Greece can help people live beyond 90 years, according to a new study from the University of Medicine in Greece, published in the journal Vascular Medicine Sage.
In reaching this conclusion, the scientists studied the older inhabitants of a Greek region, the island of Ikaria, which have the highest longevity rates in the world. They found that a cup of Greek coffee is good for cardiovascular health. Scientists have found a link between coffee drinking and the improvement in endothelial function, which helps in blood clotting and the immune system.
Of the 142 people interviewed for the survey of more than 65 years, 87% of those who drank this product had better endothelial function than those who consumed other types of coffee.
The author of the study, the doctor Gerasimos Siasos said that the Greek coffee is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants and contains only a moderate amount of caffeine. These elements are those having benefits in comparison with other coffee drinks. Given the extent of that coffee drinking habit is worldwide, this study could have a major impact on public health and it provides an interesting starting point.
The Ikarians are twice as likely to live past the age of 90 than in any other part of Europe, and tend to live their later years in good health, said the researchers.
