The International Coffee Organization (ICO) has pointed out that world coffee production in 2012/13 (October to September) should be at 144, 1 million 60-kilogram bags, thus an increase of 7.2% compared with 2011/12 crop, which had a production journal, slightly down to 134.4 million bags. The numbers run from December report of the ICO. Thus, the ICO has reduced by 1.3% its estimate for world crop 2012/13, which in November was placed at 146 million bags. The previous data of 2011/12 was 134.6 million bags.
The total production of Arabica is placed on 88.422 million bags in 2012/13, representing an increase of 9.1% over 2011/12, when production stood at 81.024 million bags. The production of Robusta is indicated in 2012/13 to 55.639 million bags, up 4.2% from 2011/12 (53.391 million bags). The increase in world crop in 2012/13 is assigned to the cycle of high productivity in Brazil's biennial coffee especially.
World exports in November 2012 totalled 9.2 million bags, up 16.5% over November 2011. Thus, accumulated in the first 11 months of 2012 (January to November), the global shipments reached 103.544 million bags, an increase of 8.5% against the same period of 2011 (95.416 million bags).
The total stocks of coffee in importing countries in October (opening stocks of 2012/13 season, which begins in October) were listed at 15.1 million bags, down 17.1% versus the same period last year.
World consumption in 2011 is indicated at 139 million bags, up 4.7% against 136.954 million bags in 2010.
