According to figures released by the International Coffee Organization (ICO), coffee prices continued to fall in August, despite a slight boost at the beginning of the month.
By comparison with the previous month, the average composite indicator price fell 2.1% to 116.45 cents/pound, its lowest level since September 2009. All four groups of indicators of coffee fell over the same period in 2012, with significant declines to register the three Arabica groups. Colombian Milds, Other Milds and Brazilian Naturals fell 2.9%, 2.3% and 2.2%, respectively. In addition, there was a decrease of 1.3% in Robustas.
In another field, the total production of all exporting countries in crop year 2012/2013 has been revised downwards slightly to around 144.4 million bags, an increase of 7.6% over 2011/2012.
It should also be noted that the total exports reached in July 2013 to 9.1 million bags, representing a decrease of 6.6% over the same period of 2012. However, total exports for the first ten months of coffee year rose 3.6% to 94.5 million bags, compared to 91.2% in the same period of 2011/2012.
In terms of world coffee consumption was estimated consumption in calendar year 2012, 142 million bags, an increase of 2.1% compared to 2011.
The consumption in traditional coffee consumption reached 71.4 million bags, a modest increase of 1% compared to 2011. Most of this increase is attributed to the exporting countries and emerging markets, which grow 2.5% and 4.7%, respectively.
