Considered the second most traded commodity in the world, coffee presented in last June, a sharp fall in prices. An uncertain macroeconomic scenario helped to bring the composite indicator price to its lowest level since September 2009, according to data released by the International Coffee Organization (ICO).
Total exports for the first eight months of coffee year 2012/2013 (October to May) came to 75.7 million bags, compared with the 72 million bags recorded in the same period last year.

In its monthly report for June, the International Coffee Organization (ICO) says that before the current price levels, there is less incentive for farmers to invest in crops as well as in the use of inputs such as fertilizer and labour. This could have a negative impact on production volumes and quality over the next few years. The result will be increased volatility and a value of less sustainable production chain.

The ICO (International Coffee Organization) released this Monday (01) that global shipments of coffee totalled 9.75 million bags of 60 kilos in the month of May. The volume is smaller than the registered in the same period last year, when were exported 10.32 million bags of the bean.
In contrast, world exports of coffee, in the first eight months of the season 2012, from October to May of 2013, presented an increase of 5.2%, totalling 75.69 million bags. In equal period 2012, were shipped 71.96 million bags.

ICO has slightly increased its estimate for world coffee production in 2012/13 to 144.7 million bags of 60 kg, the organization pointed in the monthly report. The number surpasses the previous estimate of 144.6 million bags of coffee and represents a 6.9% increase in crop year.
ICO reiterated its expectation that the coffee rust in Central America will reduce production in the region around 2.3 million bags.
The world consumption for calendar year 2012 was estimated at 142 million bags, up 2.2% in the year.
