Thousands of Colombian coffee farmers went on strike, demanding the government to increase subsidies to offset falling prices. The Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos called the end of the protest in a televised speech, calling it unnecessary and costly for the economy.
Protesters in several cities have already entered into clashes with police. The opposition accuses the government of not being able to handle the crisis.
